Carmen Main has been the St. Francis House weekend desk clerk for just over a year, “I was raised around Veterans and come from a Veteran family. I love being able to take care of them the way they should be taken care of. I love hearing their stories and letting them know they have people who care.” When asked about the hardest part of her job, Ms. Main got very quiet and then said “ I see them struggle every day in a country that sometimes doesn’t seem to care. Sometimes they chafe at the rules and it’s hard getting them to understand that those requirements are to help them, not hurt them. Our Veterans are special people and sometimes I can’t shut my mind off, thinking about them. But mainly even when it’s hard, helping Veterans is what I need to be doing.”
