We couldn’t see all the smiles for the facemasks, but everyone was grinning from ear to ear as `Representatives from the Michael Vann Johnson Jr. American Legion Post #74 in North Little Rock presented St. Francis House with a check for over twenty thousand dollars to be used to serve homeless Veterans.
This is the twenty-seventh year that the post has raised funds for homeless Veterans. It started when a love of golf combined with a love of charity, and you got the Little Rock Pro Duffers Southwest Homeless Veterans Benefit Golf Tournament. The event has changed and grown throughout the years, but this time it had to go entirely virtual!
“Even with no actual golf, the event raised more this year than ever before. It took a lot of work, and you had to make a lot of phone calls and get a lot of donors, but it was worth it!” stated Lee A. Jeffrey, member of the post, member of Produffers and long-time organizer of the event.
Attending the presentation were representative from sponsor Shorter College Alumni organization, Frisco McDonald and Earl Tolvert (President), American Legion Post 74 representatives, Carl Schmidt, R. D. Kinsey, Diana Kinsey (Auxiliary President), Lee Jeffrey, Antoine Gordon (Post Commander), and Lynn Hemphill, VA Homeless program as well as Darlene Bourgeios (St. Francis House Executive Director), Pat Dahlgren (Director of Supportive Services for Veteran Families) and Carol Chastain (Veterans Re-Integration program).
