Doris Tillman, an Army Veteran currently living at St. Francis House, loves to color. Her pictures, which she often gives to staff and fellow Veterans, are bright and cheerful, just like her outlook! Ms. Tillman served her country from 1976-1978 and before that was in ROTC at the University of Miami. She left the military due to health issues.
She married in 1979, but that marriage broke up after five years. She had lived in Florida most of her life until moving to Mississippi to live with her brother and then moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. “I’ve lived by myself most of my life, but when I was with someone else, it always seemed to become abusive. I’ve always put others first and never took care of myself.” When she got her place, things were looking good, but when her lease ran out, they raised the rent, and she could no longer afford it. “I got in contact with the Day Treatment Center, and my nephew brought me to little Rock. I came to St. Francis House in January.”
Ms. Tillman is in the process of finding a place to live. “I want to get my own place and learn to live with myself.” We know you can do it, Ms. Tillman, and until then, we’ll enjoy the cheerfulness of you and your pictures!
