Army Reserve Veteran AJ is a single mom with three children. When a water line burst in their apartment complex, all residents were evicted leaving the family with nowhere to go. SSVF was able to put the family in emergency housing and then into a new apartment in only one week! SSVF helped with outstanding water bill costs and the cost to set up new service, as well as helping them set up their new place. “When we saw everything, my girls said if felt like Christmas!”
When Navy Veteran, LS, had to flee a toxic relationship, she loaded her four-year-old daughter and her poodle in her car and just drove. She landed in Arkansas and with no family, friends or resources, she went to work trying to find a place to live. She knew about SSVF from her previous state and contacted St. Francis House. SSVF got her into emergency housing, helped her get her belongings back and set-up her apartment. Through Shallow Subsidy, SSVF will help with 50% of her rent for two years allowing her to pay her rent while she gets help with her depression and anxiety, a finds a job and gets back on her feet.
