“J” served his country as a paratrooper in the Army from 1980 to 1990. “My dad was from Arkansas, my mom is from Texas and they met in California, but I’ve lived in Arkansas twenty-five years now so Arkansas is home.”
I came out of incarceration a few years ago and had nowhere to go. My mom is in a senior home and my son working on-site at a chicken processing facility so I couldn’t live with either of them. I slept in my car for awhile and then got in contact with SSVF. They put me in emergency housing. When those funds were about to expire, my caseworker contacted Veterans Village and they put in additional funds until I found a place to stay. SSVF helped me get in to my apartment, and covered everything until I found a job. That was a few years ago. I suspected I was suffering from PTSD and since then I’ve been approved for Social Security Disability and 100% Veterans Disability. I own my home and my own sources of transportation and I’m doing well! I stopped by today to say thank you. I don’t know what would have happened without St. Francis House. I can’t give enough praise for everything they did for me.”
