JK* is a single, female Veteran who was in placement due to homelessness. She had significant anxiety and mental health barriers and had finally reached a place where she felt safe and comfortable in placement. But JK knew she couldn’t stay there forever. As she continued to work on her mental health issues, she began compiling a list of things she would need in a place to live in order to progress. “She was scared of leaving,” said her caseworker, “but she knew she needed to take that next step. She worked with us in getting her voucher and stuck to her guns about what she needed. And eventually, she found the perfect place. The landlord was delighted to work with us and hopes to work with us even more in the future as they buy and remodel other places. JK made the move completely on her own and she is all settled in now.”
