For the eighth year, the UAMS Veterans Committee has made Veterans Day special for Veterans in the Little Rock community. Under the leadership of Odette Woods, three days of activities culminated in campus-wide participation. Staff, students and even visitors on campus signed cards and made gift bags for delivery to Veterans throughout Little Rock.
“UAMS has over 670 employees who have served in the armed forces and over eighty students who are Veterans. We believe in honoring those who have served, and this is one way we can do that.” Volunteers involved in the three-day delivery project included people from the College of Nursing, Human Resources, the College of Medicine, the College of Pharmacy, Nutritional Services, and Engineering and Operations. For several of the volunteers who came to St. Francis House, this is a Veterans’ Day tradition for the whole family. And one volunteer, Mark Leonard, has been coming here since the first year!
Volunteers delivered bags to Ft. Roots on Thursday and to Veterans at UAMS on Saturday. Friday brought them to St. Francis House with gift bags, great food and lots of time for just hanging out and having fun!
