Jason, his wife, and their two children came here from Missississippi.* The family was in a Veteran program in their hometown, but the lack of housing in that area meant they never actually got housed. They came to Little Rock because of a job offer and got a hotel room right across the street from where he would work. “They used all their money getting her and getting that room. And then the money ran out,” stated Interim Director, Desiree Willmuth. “Jason called us around 2 pm and we were able to contact the hotel and get them another room that day.”
Jason took the job and since then has found permanent housing. The family is getting back on their feet and will be able to achieve the stability they want thanks to a special program called “Shallow Subsidy”, a two-year program that provides a low level of financial assistance to veterans who have employment and housing but still fall a little short of financial security. “Jason is a real success story Like many Veterans, he did not qualify for regular VA services, but SSVF was there to help.”
