Ersalene Shorter has always had a heart for service. Born in Newport, Arkansas, she got her B.S. in Human Services and began her journey with non-profits working at North Arkansas Human Services in food and nutrition. “I made sure our residential facility kitchen was up to standards and also hired staff. I hired several of our clients once they were eligible and knowing them began my journey down the road to working with the homeless..”
Ms. Shorter eventually came to Little Rock. When she came to Little Rock, she worked for Birch Tree Communities, Little Rock Community Mental Health and more recently Rock City Reentry where she was out in the community providing resources and meeting the needs of our community members who were on the street. She came to St. Francis House just a few days ago as a Supportive Service for Veterans Families caseworker.
“I’ve been doing this for over twenty-five years and I’m doing what I love. No one in this country should be unhoused and especially not our Veterans. My philosophy is to help them until they can help themselves and SSVF is a great place to do that!”
