“If You’ve Never Had Deep Sorrow, You Can’t Really Laugh”

Really Laugh”

Marine Corps Veteran, Scott Henderson served his country as a jet mechanic from 1986-1989. He grew up in Pine Bluff Arkansas and returned to Arkansas after leaving the military.

After his service, he worked in construction and airplane maintenance but had difficulty holding a job because of his alcohol addiction.  “I’ve been here at St. Francis House a few times. And I’ve been through treatment more than once. It’s been thirty years, and I’m still trying different ways of living. But I’m getting older and I’m tired of that life.”

So this time, Mr. Henderson sought out St. Francis House and came back. “Last time I jumped into getting my apartment too soon. I knew people in the area; I couldn’t do it. But this time I’m not in a hurry to leave. “

He continued “You know, if you’ve never had deep sorrow, you can’t really laugh. I’ve had that part, and all that treatment didn’t go to waste. You see things come around later and you understand. Now I know that I have to be careful where I live and who I let into my circle. I have to stay in touch with the program and with the good Lord.”

My Henderson is currently working part-time for Our House through an AARP program taking donations, sorting, and putting them out for sale at their resale shop. “I like it; it’s fun and the people are fun. We joke and laugh a lot. And I’m glad I came back to St. Francis House. it’s the best program around and gives you and good starting point, a concrete foundation .”

We’re glad you’re here Mr. Henderson and we’re enjoying being to laugh with you!
