Our staff in Community Resources don’t just serve clients; they build relationships. And just listening to Amanda talking about Tommy, you know he is more than just a client, he’s a friend!
Amanda is one of the St. Francis House staff working in Community Resources. She began as a daily volunteer and quickly impressed the staff with her hard work and genuine care for the clients. Tommy became a regular client back in January. “I saw Tommy at the bus stop and he appeared to be having some difficulty so I helped him come in. After a while, I realized that he had problems seeing and so I began helping him with other things. His wallet had been stolen and he needed to replace his bank card and he couldn’t read the number so I helped him make the call. He has trouble punching in things on a keypad so I help him with those sorts of things. He comes up almost every day. “
Tommy is currently staying at the Compassion Center and he and Amanda have become fast friends. Amanda introduced him to Tonya Walker, who helps our clients navigate the Medicare system. “Tommy didn’t realize he had benefits, but Ms. Tonya found out he had coverage and now he’s getting the medical help he needs. I help him schedule rides to appointments through “Need a Ride” with Humana. He’s always so grateful for any help. He brought Ms. Tonya and me chocolate on Valentine’s Day and he brings thank you cards for us. He’s a wonderful, kind man.”
Tommy will be having eye surgery later this month and you can bet that Ms. Amanda will be helping him through this too!
