Community resources staff member Christina Moore knows first–hand what it means to need help.
“I’ve been homeless, I’ve been in prison, I’m a recovering addict. And I hate to say it, but I have a child who’s an addict. And I just hope that someone would help him.”
Sitting at her desk in community resources, Ms. Moore has a smile and a helping hand for anyone who comes in. “A guy came in today who needed his bus pass. He was living in a sober-living house and you could tell he was new and scared. He didn’t have what he needed, but I was able to find his information and get him his pass. He also got a snack bag and some clothes and talked to one of the free phone representatives to get a cell phone. I love having all the programs here; it makes such a difference to our clients.”
Ms. Moore began at St. Francis House as a volunteer. She was living at Phoenix House after completing twenty-one months in prison. “I didn’t have drug charges, but it was because of drugs. I can get violent when I use and that got me in trouble. Phoenix House provides us with a roof over our heads and a place to help keep us grounded. And volunteering at St. Francis House is a part of that.”
Ms. Moore became a staff member at the beginning of March and will complete her Phoenix Houe program at the end of May. “I wish there were more places like St. Francis House. There are so many people out there struggling and my heart hurts for them. I’m glad I’m working in a place that helps.”
We’re so pleased to have you with us; you’re a blessing to both us and the clients!
